Godfrey Hotel
Role: Project Manager.
The Godfrey Hotel is located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. It is a 221 key hotel with parking and a roof top bar. The staggered truss system helps lend to the unique design of the building.
The challenge for this project was that it started construction but then sat still for three years due to the economic down turn. New ownership took over and restarted the project. The building needed to be reevaluated to see what could be saved before we could continue. We conducted on site surveys and determined and action plan to restore the structural integrity of the building. The original metal panels needed to be removed due to weathering. A new panel system was installed which required redesigning all the connections.
The original program for the hotel did not have a roof top bar. Ownership wanted to add this as an amenity. The problem was egress from the roof top area was not sufficient. Adding an egress stair through the post tension slab would have been difficult but there was another option. The hole that the construction crane used made a perfect alternative.
